Windy Weather

We have had the most amzingly windy weather here in Darwin for the past 5 days. Darwin is hardly ever windy apart from storms and I haven't experienced anything like this up here. The wind has created an amazing swell and some diehards were out trying to surf. The kite surfers I could understand but the waves weren't that great. Its really nice however to be able to stand in the wind which isn't hot or cold and just fell the air move around you. After a hot and steamy build up this is a real treat. With the overcast weather we have been having Darwin is actually bearable. Here are a couple of pics taken from Nightcliff jetty showing the spray.... Its fun to just stand and watch the waves roll in.

Australia Day - Free entry to Territory Wildlife Park and most of Darwin took advantage of it.
Was a lovely day, windy overcast with the occasional shower, but it wasn't hot. Took lots of pics of the animals. We saw turtles "cuddling" or "giving the other one a piggyback" with all the kids around it was quite amusing. was a very relaxing day. Have included some pics of a pig nosed turtle, white bellied sea eagle, brolga and a water monitor.

What do I do all day?

Yeah a day without rain.... finally. You would think that living in Australia we would love the rain but we have had so much the past 2 weeks that it is nice to see the sun again. Today has been really windy too so still nice and cool.
I was moaning this morning thinking it would be such a busy day short staffed at work and working hands on all day but in reality it has reminded me why I love supporting people with disabilities, particularly high support needs. So many of the people I work with have been seen as their disability rather than people first. Just like the rest of us they are all individuals. We had a pampering session this morning and it was the support workers who ended up getting foot massages, we all finished the morning relaxed and looking lovely. The people I support get so much out of what we help them with. The photo is one taken before Christmas of a few of the guys we support.

But now I must get back to work, have reports to write and assessments to do.

Monsoon

This was taken in Brisbane at the Roma st parklands but its a pic I love the colours of. I am having a lot of fun taking nature pics. At the moment though am stuck inside most of the day as we have had monsoon come thru. Its rain rain and more rain. Everything is saturated. At least it cools things down for us. After 5 days you kinda want a break from the rain. I know we had 105mm on monday. The sound is lovely on our tin roof and the garden is in need of some work, its amazing how quickly the grass grows.

Saturday, January 14, 2006

Its Saturday morning, and its a lazy day Saturday's usually are. Was woken to the soud of thunder crashing nearby and then lots of heavy rain on the roof. I love the rain. Looks like the monsoon is in cause its been raining all morning.
Everything here is so very green at the moment, its very beautiful.
Gary and I are off fishing tomorrow although with all this rain nothing will be very active. It will be good to take the boat out as we haven't been out on the harbour for a while.

WIldlife

I had never seen such amazing birdlife until I went to Yellow Waters in Kakadu. My new camera and lens allowed me to take some amazing shots. I love photography and am learning so much about it. I have finally sussed out how to use the manual mode on my camera.

Here are two of my favourites. A juvenille sea eagle and a crocodile.

Getting Started

Well I finally did it, started a blog. A place where anyone can read my ramblings. I hope that my family and friends around the world can use this to keep in touch with me.

So its a Friday afternoon, we just had a rain shower go through which made a bearable day humid and sticky and I have the house to myself for a while. A rare occaision that. Gary is still at work.

Well better go finish setting this site up. Maybe even take a picture of myself to put on here.
