Go West.......

First off there was Joe Creek Picnic Area. Driving into this amphitheatre was awesome. The escarpment is lined with Palms where the water cascades down in the wet season. They look spectacular against the red rock face of the escarpment. This place would look awesome in the wet season with cascading down.
Then there are the Boab trees. They seriously are wierd trees. I took tonnes of pictures of them, purely cause they are so strange. The bark has an almost silver sheen which looks awesome at sunset, taking on the colour of the setting sun.
I camped at Big Horse creek which is just done the rd from Gergory's tree. gregory was the the leader of an expidition in this region and the date of his arrival is careved into one of the boabs. His camp was on the Victoria River. The Boabs are also sacred to the local aboriginal people and there is a huge fine if you are caught defacing them. It was really good to see this part of the country for the first time, will definately be back to explore the Kimberly one day.

Hi Cherry, your photos of Darwin and the West are great and we have decided to come and have a look for ourselves next Winter rather than go overseas.Australia is soooo beautiful, and you don't need a passport or funny money!!So, thanks for the inspiration. Pam and Alan.xxxx
